Volunteer day for the National Trust’s Stepping Stones project

In February a team of Freyssinet volunteers participated in a tree/hedge planting day as part of the National Trust’s Stepping Stones project, a nature conservation initiative in the Shropshire Hills.

Fir Tree Farm field near the Stiperstones is currently being restored into flower-rich hay meadow, linked by a network of hedgerows and verges to create a wildlife habitat.

Our enthusiastic team planted 550 young trees, a mix native species including hawthorn, oak, holly, rowan and willow, which once grown will act as ‘wildlife corridors’, providing food and shelter for wildlife as well as helping birds, animals and insects to move through the landscape.
