The Graduate Development Programme

Graduate Civil / Structural Engineer

Our roles are based in Glasgow, Birmingham, Telford and London and, as part of your learning and development, you will follow a rotation during the programme in a variety of departments, projects and locations. You will complete a 2-3 year flexible programme, ensuring you get a fully rounded experience, including:

  • Technical design: working with highly technical and innovative concepts
  • Practical application: operational experience as a graduate engineer on site
  • Knowledge building: developing a good understanding of the commercial/financial aspects of project management.
  • Programme of modular based learning (Freyssinet specialist techniques and project management skills)
  • External training courses
  • Support and guidance from your line manager
  • Dedicated mentor who will closely follow your progress and define/steer your development and learning
  • Project management and leadership development mentoring
  • Support for professional memberships and chartership as appropriate
  • Potential opportunities for short duration experience overseas within Group

Graduate Quantity Surveyor

The role is predominantly based from Freyssinet’s Head Office in Telford but as part as part of your learning and development, you will follow a rotation in a variety of departments, projects and locations. You will complete a 2-3 year flexible programme, ensuring you get a fully rounded experience including exposure to:

  • Sales and estimating: where it all starts and how pricing is formed on projects
  • The contract process (review and negotiation)
  • Budget setting and cost management
  • Reporting and forecasting
  • Supply chain evaluation and procurement
  • Management of sub-contractors
  • Issuing contractual notifications
  • Negotiation and agreement of compensation events
  • Production and agreement of final accounts
  • Site based experience, to gain a deeper understanding of our projects and their activities
  • Follow a programme of modular based learning (Freyssinet specialist techniques and project management skills)
  • Attend external training courses
  • Receive ongoing support and guidance from your line manager
  • Dedicated mentor who will closely follow your progress and define/steer your development and learning
  • Support for professional memberships and chartership as appropriate
  • We would also consider applications from graduates from a law / construction law discipline who would be prepared to undertake an additional qualification in quantity surveying.

Year in Industry Placements – Mechanical and Civil Engineering

Freyssinet’s Year in Industry placements are for motivated undergraduates who are currently studying either a Civil Engineering or combined Mechanical and Civil Engineering (BEng or Meng) qualification. 

During a 12-month paid work placement year you will gain valuable experience, ranging from the initial building of costs at tender stage to practical delivery of projects on site, including:

  • Defining and quantifying scope of work and preparing comprehensive conceptual, budgetary, and construction cost estimates for projects
  • Preparing estimates for high value structural concrete/masonry repair and strengthening projects including:
    • Hydrodemolition
    • Surface preparation
    • Concrete repairs
    • Spray concrete
    • Bearing replacement and jacking
  • Assisting with creation of technical proposals
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
  • Spending time on project sites to gain practical experience of how innovation solutions are delivered in a ‘live’ environment
  • Assisting Site Engineers and Project Managers with tasks such as setting out and compilation of QC records
  • Understanding the relevance of how the commercial elements of a project must be controlled throughout

The placement will bring your studies to life through practical application in a highly technical and innovative environment, and you will receive mentoring and on the job training from experienced experts in their field.
