Freyssinet QS Chad Bertasso volunteered with Sheffield Cycling for All, an inclusive off‑road cycling hub offering accessible rides for disabled adults and people with long‑term health conditions.
The charity, part of Disability Sheffield, received VINCI UK Foundation funding last year to purchase an ICE Full Fat Foot Cycle, – a specially designed off‑road e‑cycle that supports people with a wide range of mobility needs.
As part of the Foundation initiative, Chad also contributed his time, joining the team for a day of hands‑on volunteering. His activities included unloading the adaptive bikes, signing participants in, and supporting the use of one of their wheelchair‑loading cycles. He took several wheelchair users on laps around the park, giving them the chance to enjoy the outdoors, fresh air, and sunshine.
Chad said: “Seeing how much joy it brought people was the true highlight of my day. Hearing how this weekly activity is the best part of the week for so many of the participants was incredibly moving and reminded me how important it is to appreciate the abilities we have and to make the most of each day.”
“I stayed right through to the end to help pack everything away, and it’s something I’ll be doing again. I’d encourage anyone who has the chance to get involved, your time can make a bigger difference than you might imagine.”
The VINCI UK Foundation aims to drive social progress – supporting charitable initiatives that create opportunities in training, employment, housing, mobility, and leisure.
