Roads around Windsor are set to close over the next few months to allow structural repairs to take place on the Queen Elizabeth Bridge.
Work began on the bridge, which is located on the A332 Windsor Way, to replace the cable ties last week.
It is thought that water underneath the bridge has resulted in a corrosion of the steel connections, which is very dangerous as these hold the load of the structure, the Windsor Express reported.
As the repair work was deemed urgent, the Royal Borough is expecting to partially close several roads between now and January 2021, despite the majority of the project taking place underneath the structure.
These road closures include blocking all traffic on the northbound carriageway from 18 May and 20 May between 10:00 and 18:00.
There will also be full closure of the northbound route between 26 August and 28 August from 10:00 to 18:00 again.
The local authority anticipates having to close part of the road 16 times before it is set to be complete mid-January 2021, including closures on the southbound carriageway as well.
Windsor’s important bridge is not the only one that needs urgent strengthening work, as the Claymills over-bridge was recently closed in both directions to enable essential repair work on its deck joints.
Highways England shut the bridge and sliproad over the A38 in Derby for two days, with traffic not being allowed on the northbound route between 20:00 and 06:00 on both 6 May and 7 May, revealed the Derby Telegraph.
