HS2 is preparing for the next stage in its construction programme, with a new phase of multi-million pound contracts set to be released for tender in the summer. Railway Technology Magazine reports that contracts will be available for civil engineering works, station fitting, and for part of the new train manufacturing process.
In addition to this, New Civil Engineer reports that subcontractors will also be sought for drainage, formwork, and concrete works as well as highway works. The contracts will be for locations along the section of the HS2 between London and Birmingham.
A ‘Meet the Contractor” event will take place in Manchester on 10 and 11 July, where the organisers say businesses can find out more information about the tendering process and how to get “HS2 ready”, so that they are in the best position to be selected for a project.
HS2 Ltd chief commercial officer Ruth Todd, said: “Thousands of UK businesses are already helping to bring the HS2 network to life, and this latest round of contract opportunities opens the door for hundreds more to join them.”
“It’s an exciting time, as attention now turns towards raising our stations from the ground and building a fleet of rolling stock that will transform the way we travel between Britain’s major towns and cities.”
“This is a standout opportunity for UK businesses looking to expand their order books and I’d encourage them to register quickly for the chance to discuss what’s on offer.”
HS2 have recently completed the first concrete pour in the west box at Old Oak Common Station, which is described as a ‘super-hub station’ in West London. When completed, it will have fourteen new platforms connecting the capital and the rest of the UK.
