Freyssinet has become Highways England registered for modular highways expansion joints.
The company’s Freyssimod LW modular (multi-element) expansion joint, which offers easy installation, is durable and excellent in heavy traffic, is now approved by Highways England.
Expansion joints are a vital component of any reinforced concrete, pre-stressed concrete or steel structure, and bridge decks in particular, as they absorb these movements, while also accommodating shrinkage, creep effects and changes in temperature experienced by the structure.
Highways England operates, maintains and improves England’s motorways and major A roads. The official registration of Freyssinet’s Freyssimod joint reinforces the civil engineering company’s position as a leading expansion joint specialist, offering the widest range of approved expansion joints in the UK.
The HE approval covers traditional painted expansion joints, but also the use of galvanization for extended life.
Matthew Dronfield, Freyssinet Director Bridges and Structures said: “We are extremely pleased to achieve Highways England registration, particularly at such a crucial time in the lifespan of many modular (multi-element) joints in structures around the UK. Most of these types of joints have now been in place for nearly 40 years, and are in need of replacement.”
“The Freyssinet group designs, manufactures and installs larger joints in 60 countries worldwide. We pride ourselves on the delivery of innovative solutions and customer satisfaction.”
Freyssinet’s range of expansion joints incorporates all manner of requirements – from traffic frequency and movement range to driver comfort and resistance to aggressive elements (gravel, salt, sand, etc). Selecting the correct type of joint is fundamental, and therefore Freyssinet provides a thorough inspection and design service to establish the best joint to match the requirements of the structure and the client.
