The final five-mile stretch of track laying has begun on the Borders Railway project following the Christmas break.
The 30-mile railway will call at seven new stations – Shawfair, Eskbank, Newtongrange, Gorebridge, Stow, Galashiels and Tweedbank – reopening part of the Waverley route, which closed in 1969.
Tracklaying is expected to finish at Tweedbank in early February. BAM has completed 34 miles of the track infrastructure so far, including three double-track sections.
Freyssinet have supplied bridge bearings to seven of the Border Railways structures. Of the 107 bearings supplied, 52 were elastomeric bearings, 46 were mechanical pot bearings and 9 were guide, pin or rocker bearings.
In addition, Freyssinet’s sister company, Reinforced Earth Company supplied 11,000 reinforced earth walls across 26 stations along the line, including Hardengreen Bridge.
The project is due for completion in Summer 2015.
