Freyssinet was awarded Project of the Year 2023 up to £3 million by CECA Midlands for its works on the HS2 Marston Box Slide.
Over Christmas 2022, the 85m long, 12,600t box structure was moved 165m into position to facilitate the build of the HS2 line over the M42 in Marston, north-east of Birmingham.
Freyssinet designed and implemented the sliding mechanism, utilising its Autoripage® technique for heavy handling, which enabled the box to be pushed on a guiding raft and into place.
The record-breaking operation was successfully completed by an integrated project team, which included our client Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV), SYSTRA, Mott Macdonald and group companies Freyssinet and Hebetec.
The CECA Midlands award is in recognition of the technical expertise, commitment and energy of all those who contributed to the project, led by Freyssinet’s Project Director Kevin Bennett and Project Manager Maria-Teresa Sanchez-Sanchez, and their efforts to make this complex project a huge success.
