The A14 Orwell Bridge Strategic Management and Studies project was awarded a certificate of excellence at the ICE Yorkshire and Humber Awards 2018.
Principle Contractor Amey, on behalf of Highways England, undertook industry-leading asset management on the A14 Orwell Bridge project, which included developing a bearings maintenance strategy. Freyssinet was engaged as bridge bearing and repairs specialist to develop and trial repair methods to prolong the service life of the existing bearings. Following a successful trial, Freyssinet carried out the necessary repairs on the bearings in-situ, in turn extending the life of the bridge.
In the Sir John Fowler Award category for study and research, the A14 Orwell Bridge project received recognition for excellence in civil engineering in a research project undertaken in the Yorkshire and Humber region.
The annual ICE awards celebrate excellence and imaginative concepts in civil engineering practice in the area. Winning projects are assessed on their value and impact on society, sustainability, health safety and welfare, quality of design, innovation and best practice, difficulty and response, collaboration and excellence in delivery.
