The Shakespeare Schools Festival charity is the largest youth drama festival in the UK. They aim to boost articulacy and confidence in young people through fun and active ways of learning, as well as teaching employability skills such as teamwork and self-discipline – all through the use of Shakespeare’s famous texts.

In 2012 SSF’s global arm, Shakespeare International, invited groups of students from schools in Russia, Serbia, Israel and Australia to perform alongside UK schools. Freyssinet Limited and subsidiary Reinforced Earth Company made a donation to Isidora Sekulic Highschool, in Novi Sad, Serbia, which made it possible for them to visit the UK and take part in the Festival.

The school is located in the hometown of Freyssinet’s Project Manager, Stamenko Kalinic, who was involved with making arrangements for the students’ trip to the UK. Freyssinet also donated t-shirts for the students to wear during their visit.

The students performed in ‘Hamlet’ at the Royal Welsh College of Drama and Music.

English teacher Bosiljka Trifunovic-Vernacki thanked Freyssinet and RECo for their donation, and Stamenko for his contribution saying, “We truly appreciate all the work and effort you have put in. It is going to be one of the most memorable experiences”.

On June 4th and 5th 2011 a team of employees from Freyssinet Ltd and Freyssinet Makers completed the famous Three Peaks Challenge, aiming to climb the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon) in the space of just 24 hours.

The team consisted of 5 walkers – Deborah Lawley, Mark Caswell, Andrew Donohoe, Peter Turp, Paul Wood – and 2 drivers Ian Turp and Keith Mossman.

They pledged to raise a minimum of £2,000 for the charity Action Medical Research. This is a children’s charity dedicated to improving the health of babies and children in the UK. For almost 60 years the charity has been behind numerous breakthroughs such as the UK polio vaccine, ultrasound scanning in pregnancy, and more recently the fetal heart rate monitor a new state-of-the-art device that could help save thousands of at-risk babies.

Action Medical Research relies entirely on donations to fund a range of research projects that address serious childhood conditions and improve quality of life for children with disabilities.

Freyssinet’s team completed the challenge in 23 hours and 50 minutes, coming a very respectable 8th place out of 36 teams.

As well as support from friends and family the team received donations from Freyssinet’s clients and suppliers including The McKean Group, Sabre Jetting Services Ltd and Speedy Hire.

A special thanks goes to staff at the Forth Road Bridge and C&V Carmichael Ltd. Freyssinet Makers are currently completing bearing replacement works at the Forth Road Bridge and they generously donated 4 of the removed bearings to be recycled, while C&V Carmichael Ltd assisted with lifting and transporting the 4 tonne load. This donation of scrap value of the old bearings boosted Freyssinet’s fundraising efforts by £845.

To date the team have raised a total of £3,057.50.

On Friday 8th April, Jordan Miller, aged 9, from Redditch Swimming Club’s Silver Development Squad took to the water to join in with “Swimathon 2011″, a National Swimming Event designed to raise valuable funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

In an attempt to raise money for this worthwhile cause, Jordan undertook the challenge to swim 5 Kilometres (3.3 Miles) and in so doing raised well in excess of £1,300, picking up some well deserved Corporate Sponsorship along the way.

Freyssinet Ltd, when faced with Jordan’s proposed challenge decided the outstanding feat would be backed by the Company and willingly donated a cheque for Jordan’s efforts. In this day and age finding someone so young with such an attitude to care and help others is a truly unique character and should be supported and applauded.

Amazingly, Jordan completed her 200 length swim in 2 hours and 25 minutes, receiving a huge cheer and a round of applause from poolside staff and other swimmers before jumping out of the pool to receive her Swimathon Medal.

Freyssinet Ltd were proud and honoured to support Jordan along the way.
