The Special Award for Emergency Engineering works completed on the Hammersmith Flyover Phase 1, has just been awarded to a joint team of Civil Engineering Specialists, led by ‘Amey’ with Freyssinet supplying a large proportion of specialist structural enhancement techniques, labour, supervision and design that ensured this project both met and exceeded the clients expectations and absolute adherence to the Olympic timeline.

Freyssinet site wins prestigious award for excellence

Freyssinet’s team at the R159 Rayhall Viaduct, alongside framework contractors Amey and Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering, has recently been awarded the Phil Stanton Award for recognition of their exceptional performance on site.

Teams were to submit evidence of ways in which they have excelled in terms of client satisfaction, health, safety, environmental and behavioural initiatives and the Lean process.

The R159 team shone in all areas, going above and beyond basis initiatives. This included engagement with local stakeholders, the use of innovative working methods and materials, and a range of workshops and in-house training courses. These were all reflected in HSE figures and savings made for the client. Powerful teamwork, supply chain integration and excellent stakeholder liaison all contributed to a successful collaborative approach.

The Phil Stanton Award for excellence was established in 2003 in memory of Highways Agency worker Phil Stanton who sadly passed away in June of that year. Phil was a driving force in the establishment of Construction Management as a procurement method at both Pilot Stage and for the current Framework. The award recognises the team that has delivered an outstanding performance on their project during the year, in particular demonstrating it can provide a service which ‘goes the extra mile’ at no additional cost to the client.

Congratulations go to the entire Freyssinet team at R159, and in particular to Contracts Manager Jon Williams, Quantity Surveyor David McDonald and and Site Managers Charlotte Clifton and Charlie Shields.

Freyssinet is an acknowledged leader in specialized civil engineering and introduced post tensioned slabs to the UK in the early 1980s. External post tensioning is appropriate when dealing with bridge decks in particular, as the R159 Rayhall Viaduct required.

Freyssinet makes the Shortlist for 2012 Specialists Awards

Freyssinet are pleased to announce that they have been short listed in the ‘Concrete’ category of the 2012 Specialists Awards.

The Awards look to commend the work of specialist contractors in the construction industry, recognising the valuable role that they play in projects large and small.

Freyssinet was asked to reflect on the company’s performance between November 2010 and 2011, providing examples of notable successfully completed contracts, demonstrating client satisfaction, and describing how the company has grown and developed within this time.

Freyssinet was keen to highlight the unrivalled diverse offering and range of technical skills that they provide to their clients, along with their commitment to further developing the company through the acquisition of an in-house hydrodemolition team and the launch of their site-based apprenticeship scheme. In particular Freyssinet have experienced growth within their concrete repair activities, demonstrating innovation and versatility.

Making the shortlist is a huge achievement and Freyssinet look forward to attending the Awards ceremony in London on March 20th 2012.

Bulgari Hotel wins Concrete Society Award

The 43rd annual presentation of The Concrete Society’s Awards for Excellence in Concrete took place on 10th November 2011 in London.

The Sustainability Award went to the Bulgari Hotel and Residences (formerly the Knightsbridge Palace Hotel) in London, where Freyssinet Limited undertook the design, supply and installation of a post-tensioned floor slab system.

Appointed by Byrne Bros in early 2010, the installation works were carried out by Freyssinet between August and December 2010.

The building consists of high-quality residences overlooking Hyde Park, a luxury hotel, restaurant, ballroom and a swimming pool.

The use of post-tensioned floor slabs in the structure contributed to meeting the client’s aspirations for a ‘green’ building, utilising approximately 25% less concrete and 65% less steel reinforcement compared to a traditionally reinforced structure.
